Conserving your heritage into the future.
Cleaning is the first practical step to conserving your heirlooms. Appropriate and gentle cleaning methods are used to remove dirt, neutralise acidity and prevent further deterioration.
Stabilising goes hand in hand with cleaning. This step includes stabilising the object from further deterioration such as chemical and mechanical processes.
Repairing the object is completed in alignment with conservation practices and the needs of the client. Conservation is not restoration and the aim to to keep the original integrity of the object in tact not rebuild or restore to brand new condition.
Conservation is the ongoing management of caring for your object. This includes proper storage, inspection and appropriate supports to ensure your item is conserved long into the future for generations to come.
Welcome to The G.C - Gruzas Conservation.
Cultural Heritage is all around us, from the inheritance of your grandmother’s wedding ring to that old building in the middle of your town. Beyond the memories and look of inherited objects, there is a lot that can be gained from our interaction with cultural heritage.
Here at Gruzas Conservation I aim to preserve those important memories and knowledge of our past through object conservation. The heritage we can touch (tangible) and heritage we can see or hear (intangible) left by our ancestors provides current societies with their identity. I am sure you have a strong connection to the things you have inherited from past family members or perhaps you have something tangible you would like to leave behind. Cultural items help form a sense of identity, contribution and are reminder of the steps that took place to end up where we are today.
In a bid to destroy nations, current terrorism tactics include looting and destroying important monuments, sacred sites and cultural property. Not too mention with today's disposable habits and shift into technology we can often neglect and fail to appreciate the ancestry in our own backyard, what our ancestors have left behind and what we can gain from their presence. We can learn an endless amount of information from cultural property and conserving it for our present and future generations is vital to the stability of current societies.
The G.C aims to take a scientific approach to the conservation of objects by considering how an object interacts with its environment and how environmental factors influence ageing, functionality, storage, preservation and repair.
